Why I'll Vote For McCain (Drunk)

French President (supposed conservative, for France I guess) Nicolas Sarkozy:

"We want a new world to come out of this. . . We want to set up the basis for a capitalism of entrepreneurs, not speculators.''

By "capitalism" he means "heavy regulation of the private sector by an intrusive central government with little knowledge of economics or understanding of the 'invisible hand'", guided by "questionable --socialistic-- political motives"

McCain might (please God) balk at this new order the Europeans desire. Obama will embrace it, as well as the rest of their statist ideologies.

Actually, AM, as much as I am loath to admit it, I'm pretty much on Sarkozy's page.

What's at stake today is capitalism itself. And, as such, it needs re-defining in today's understanding.

Unbridled ANYTHING is going to lead down the wrong road -- we saw that with Communism. And as I see it, unbridled capitalism leads to greed. We can plainly see that that is what has led to the current crisis.

Sarkozy is right, I think. We MUST protect entrepreneurship at all costs. And to that end, we must ensure a greedy few don't manipulate the free market to their own ends -- and to disaster for us all. How to do this?

Welcome to the new world. We're going to have to figure this one out.

We conservatives like things orderly -- but this one is going to take some creative thinking.

That's the problem, this crisis hasn't been caused by unfettered capitalism. Its been caused by over regulation. If government didn't interfere, this problem wouldn't have happened, or the market would have already corrected itself. Believe me, the capitalism Sarkozy is talking about isn't capitalism. Even the "conservatives" in France are socialists.
